Module 1: Understanding Biological
This module introduces the learner to genetics. You will discover Punnett squares and pedigree charts and how the application of these tools can predict the inheritance patterns of future generations for such things as attached ear lobe, hitch hiker's thumb, color blindness or hemophilia. This module also shows the different ways genetic mutations can occur and the results of these mutations.
Module 2: Mechanisms of Inheritance
The translation and transcription of DNA to RNA are uncovered in this module.
Module 3: Evolutionary Theory and Biodiversity
Ever heard of survival of the fittest? That and the other parts of Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection are topics for discussion.
Module 4: Organizing Biodiversity
Species classifications and the domains of life will teach you about algae, protists, bacteria and other microscopic forms of life surrounding us.
Module 5: Conservation of Biodiversity
Issues facing society in terms of ecosystems and conservation are taught in this module with relevance to issues in conservation currently prevalent in Manitoba.
Meet Brandy Walkow, a learner at Swan River Adult Education who just completed Grade 12 Biology.

Brandy began Grade 12 Biology in September. Her goal was to complete biology to upgrade her original mark achieved in high school as she was planning to apply to University College of the North in early 2014 into the DPN (Diploma in Practical Nursing) Program.
These are Brandy's thoughts and comments about Grade 12 Biology. "Biology was a lot of fun! It has opened my eyes to a lot of new ideas and has helped me understand so many more things in everyday life such as food and health choices. It was a very engaging course and I certainly clicked with it. The completion of Grade 12 Biology will open doors for me to achieve my goal of getting into nursing, however, I now have plans to further my studies within biology into fields such as genetics, genetic counselling or oncology."
